Welcome to Summer!
Join the Pittsburgh Camerata for our radiant June concert, Welcome to Summer: Music from Britain and Beyond–an occasion that journeys across oceans, landscapes, and the shared human experience of home. Along with music of the British Isles, we are thrilled to feature the premiere of a newly-commissioned work, Wander-Land: "The Neighbor's Anthem," by Michael Markowski with text by Andy Wilkinson.
We have created a rich and compelling musical tapestry that moves from familiar favorites to striking discoveries from across the pond and Eastern Canada; this culminates in the powerful first performance of Wander-Land. This evocative work reflects on wandering, migration, and the meaning of home–both the places we come from and the communities we build together.
The poem’s closing lines beautifully capture the spirit of the performance:
We are the tribe of wide horizon,
the wind our song,
the sky our poem;
where all the strangers,
where all the pilgrims,
they’re all our neighbors,
they’re all welcome.
It is only fitting that we begin with the music of lands many of our ancestors once called home, and conclude with this stirring reminder that, wherever we come from, we are all neighbors. Come be part of this moving musical journey–we would love to welcome you.
