Jane Potter Baumer is the director of the new Community Music School at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and just began the two-year Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology there. Jane has a B.A. in Music and International Studies from Emory University, and an M.S. in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She has taught at Mars Hill College, Middle Tennessee State University, IUP, Atlanta International School, and Northside College Prep High School in Chicago. From 2005-2012, she had had a home studio for voice and piano in Indiana, conducted several small choirs, and was musical director for IUP's Children’s Footlight Theater in the summers. She is currently the director of IUP's Crimson Children's Choir, for children in grades 3-8.
In addition to concertizing and recording extensively with Robert Shaw’s choirs from the late ‘80s through the mid-‘90s, Jane has sung with Ohio Light Opera, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and Oregon Bach Festival, and was a voice teacher and soloist at Berkshire Choral Festival. She joined the Pittsburgh Camerata in 2005, and returned in 2012 after a two-year hiatus. She has been a soloist with the Asheville Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared in operas, musicals, and recitals with the Department of Music at IUP. Jane and husband Matt, a musicologist at IUP, have two school-age daughters, Haley and Hannah.
